Bob Walch, The Herald, Monterey, California September 27, 1992 Charlotte Vale-Allen's 27th novel, Leftover Dreams, is perhaps not as airy as Love Queen, but it is an unforgettable, poignant drama that centers on three generations of women. Faye and Louise Parker are the heroines of this lengthy novel but they share center stage with both their temperamental mother and nurturing grandmother. Growing up in a dysfunctional home, the two sisters have had to rely on each other for strength and love. Sifting through the bonds that unite and the events that disrupt this family makes for interesting, albeit unsettling, reading. Granted this would play well on one of the afternoon "soaps," but there's nothing this literate on television right now. |
